What?

Have you ever been asked a question when you were lost in thought, distracted, or caught up in your own world? You hear the question but don’t really register it, and then, all of a sudden, you snap back and ask, “What?” That moment of confusion and awkwardness is exactly what I’ve tried to capture in this painting.

It’s the feeling of being lost, trying to process what’s being said, while experiencing a mix of realization and discomfort all at once. The expression on the fish’s face mirrors that sense of sudden awakening and the uncertainty that follows — a moment when you’re half in the present, but also still in a mental fog, trying to catch up.
